Form: Basin stand or washstand
Description: A substantial American Classical basin stand with a hinged rectangular top and rounded front edge decorated in gilt with fruit and foliage. The fitted interior has one large basin aperture and two smaller cup apertures. Below, a paneled door opens to a storage compartment above a dovetailed lower drawer. Ebonized ring-turned columns, gilt rings, brass lion-mask ring pulls, brass rosette mounts, and turned feet complete the form. Its broad proportions give the piece a robust domestic presence.

Condition: Presents well with scattered scratches, abrasions, finish wear, staining, and age-related discoloration. The gilt-stenciled decoration and gilt rings have rubbing and losses. Shrinkage cracks and separations are visible to the fitted top and case, with scattered veneer and edge losses and evidence of old repairs. Interior surfaces show wear from use. The removable basin and cups are not present. Brass hardware appears period.
